When I began my run for lieutenant governor, some skeptics said a
mayor from a small town in the western mountains couldn't compete.
Friends, we proved them wrong.
Thanks to your support and hard work, we showed the state that voters
will get behind a clean campaign grounded in innovative ideas to move
North Carolina forward. Although we didn't have the budget for the TV
ads and glossy mailers needed to win the nomination, hundreds of
thousands of North Carolinians agreed with us that we can strengthen
our state by strengthening our communities. I look forward to
continuing to fight for the issues I raised in my campaign, and
working with you to build a better North Carolina.

I feel honored to have had the opportunity to run for lieutenant
governor. Sherry and I so enjoyed seeing our great state, and meeting
